Georgia Quail at Cabin Bluff Resort

This week Bob is back in the Peach State… hunting quail at Cabin Bluff Lodge and Resort. Cabin Bluff has over 27,000 acres of wildlife habitat and 1500 acres of quail hunting property. General Manager, Dave Edwards takes Bob on another great quail hunt along the Atlantic coastal plain in Woodbine, Georgia. If you love upland bird hunting, this is a show you will surely want to see!!

Double Trouble—Spring Gobblers

Spring turkey season can be a blessing or a curse…. As everyone knows hunting the eastern wild turkey can be a frustrating and/or rewarding experience. This week Bob is joined by Scott Rhodes from Oak Grove Plantation in Brunson, South Carolina, Scott will do his best to put Bob in the right spot to bag a southern spring gobbler. Key Lime – White Chocolate Cheesecake Recipe

KEY LIME-WHITE CHOCOLATE CHEESECAKE

For the crust:

1¼ cups graham cracker crumbs

¼ cup sugar

5 tablespoons butter, melted

 

For the filling:                                               

1½ pounds cream cheese, room temperature

½ cup sugar

pinch of nutmeg

pinch of salt

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

3 whole eggs, room temperature

2 egg yolks, room temperature

1# quality white chocolate, melted

6 ounces key lime juice, room temperature

2 tablespoons Meyer’s Dark Rum

 

  1. For the crust, combine graham cracker crumbs, sugar, and butter and press into the bottom and up the sides of a 10-inch springform pan.
  2. For the filling, using an electric mixer, cream together cream cheese, sugar, nutmeg, and vanilla extract.
  3. Add the room temperature eggs and yolks individually to the cream cheese mixture.  Scrap the bowl often.
  4. To melt the white chocolate, pour chocolate into a microwave-safe container and cook in 30 seconds increments at half power, stirring between each cooking interval.  Continue cooking and stirring until chocolate is smooth.
  5. Fold melted chocolate into the cream cheese base until completely incorporated.
  6. Combine key lime juice and rum and fold into the batter.
  7. Pour filling into the prepared crust.  Bake at 325° F in a water bath for 50 minutes to an hour.  The center should be set.
  8. Remove the cheesecake from the oven and cool for two hours on a wire rack.  For best results, chill overnight before unmolding.

South Georgia Plantation Quail Hunting

This week’s show highlights one of the south’s finest quail plantations in Rebecca, Georgia. Joining Bob this week is Kevin Messmer from Chevrolet. Bob & Kevin will be hunting behind some of the finest English Setter’s and Pointers in the country, doing what they both love to do in the south, traditional wing shooting. They will be staying at Red Pebble Plantation which features a 7000 square foot lodge on over 3000 acres of upland bird habitat. Don’t miss this show if you love upland bird hunting.

2012 was a huge year for Bob in the outdoors. White Marlin, Yellowfin Tuna, and big Wahoo all in the same year. Quail hunting with NASCAR Champion Terry Labonte, turkey hunting in the famous lowcountry of South Carolina, and trophy pike fishing in northern Canada. What a year… from Bermuda to Saskatchewan this week’s look back at the Best of 2012 has something for every outdoorsman. Watermelon Gazpacho Recipe | The Sportsman’s Table

Watermelon Gazpacho

  • 1 qt Watermelon, diced
  • 1 qt watermelon juice
  • 1 qt cantaloupe diced
  • 1 cup Red bell pepper, diced
  • 2 cups English cucumber, peeled, seeded and diced
  • seeded and diced
  • 1/4 cup sherry wine vinegar
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1, 5 oz can tomato juice
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • olive oil
  • basil

In a large non-reactive bowl, mix vinegar, sugar, tomato juice , watermelon juice. Blend 1 qt . watermelon to obtain juice, add . Add diced watermelon, cantaloupe, red pepper, and cucumber. Season to taste with salt and pepper and a drizzle of olive oil. Garnish with basil or mint.

Southern Quail with Pennington Seed

This week Bob is joined by two Georgia Outdoorsmen, Ronnie Stapp and Burton Hacker of Pennington Seed. Wildlife habitat and coveys of quail will be the focus of the show this week. Bob will have the chance to discuss their love for hunting and the outdoors as well as how important habitat, hunting and outdoor sports is to our future. A show you will surely enjoy.
